LeNSin, the International Learning Network of networks on Sustainability (2015-2019), is an EU-supported (ERASMUS+) project involving 36 universities from Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and Central America, aiming at the promotion of a new generation of designers (and design educators) capable to effectively contribute to the transition towards a sustainable society for all.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The LeNS – Learning Network on Sustainability (www.lens-international.org)<\/p>

\u00a0is an international network of Higher Education Institutions aimed at the development and<\/p>

the diffusion of the design for sustainability discipline in worldwide curricula with a multipolar, open and copyleft ethos.\u00a0<\/p>

Today the network counts 136 universities\/institutions form 26 countries organised in the following 14 regional networks:<\/p>

LeNS_Africa, LeNS_Brasil, LeNS_Colombia, LeNS_Argentina, LeNS_Mexico, LeNS_Per\u00f9, LeNS_Oceania, LeNS_China,\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>

A new ethos for a design community: towards an open source and copy left learning-by-sharing attitude\/action.<\/p>

We, the undersigned, aware of both the\u00a0urgent changes<\/strong>\u00a0required by sustainable development, the potential\u00a0role of design<\/strong>\u00a0(and design thinking) in promoting system innovation in the way we produce, consume and interact, as well as the opportunities offered by the ever more\u00a0interconnected society<\/strong>, propose the adoption and diffusion of a\u00a0new ethos<\/strong>\u00a0within a worldwide\u00a0design community<\/strong>:<\/p>

To view design as a unique multi-polar learning community promoting, enabling and activating any possible learning-by-sharing process aiming at effective knowledge osmosis and cross-fertilisation in design for sustainability in an open and copy left ethos<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>

We, the undersigned,\u00a0commit our selves<\/strong>\u00a0in such an ethos, trying our best to apply this in our daily life<\/p>

as individuals or representatives of institutions in the\u00a0design community<\/strong>.<\/p>

In relation to our competencies and possibilities we will make our\u00a0acquired<\/strong>\u00a0knowledge to be,<\/p>

as far as possible, freely and easily accessible in a\u00a0copy left<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0open source<\/strong>\u00a0modality (while safeguarding our authorship and scientific recognised publication activity), that enable others in the design community to acquire them free of charge,<\/p>

with the possibility to replicate, modify, remix and reuse, through e.g. adopting creative commons licences.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

  • As researchers, this knowledge includes our acquired\u00a0research knowledge<\/strong>\u00a0base (e.g. papers, books, etc.) and\u00a0knowhow<\/strong>\u00a0(e.g. methods and tools).<\/span><\/li>
  • As educators, this knowledge includes our\u00a0educational resources<\/strong>\u00a0(slideshows, texts, video of lecture, educational support tools, etc.)<\/li>
  • As designers and design thinkers, this knowledge includes the design for sustainability\u00a0concept\u00a0proposal<\/strong>\u00a0of products, services, systems and scenarios, as well as a knowhow they used to design them.<\/li><\/ul>

    We\u00a0commit\u00a0our selves to seek the commitment of other\u00a0individuals<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0institutions<\/strong>\u00a0in such an ethos within the design community. In relation to our competencies and possibilities we will:<\/p>

    • do our best to commit individuals such as researchers, educators, professional designers and design thinkers as well as institutions such as research institutions, design schools, and designer?s associations to adopt the same\u00a0ethos<\/strong><\/li>
